Contact Lens Care & Cleaning Guide
Understanding and implementing proper care and cleaning of your color contact lenses is imperative. Failure to do so can lead to many problems ranging from mild discomfort to serious eye infections or even blindness. This care & cleaning guide is designed to help you enjoy years of worry-free good vision and beautiful eyes.
The most important thing to know about the care of all contact lenses, even color contact lenses, is that they must remain moist. Contact lenses that dry out may become brittle and can break, but at the very least dry contacts would be very uncomfortable to wear. Any time your color contacts are not in your eyes, they should be stored in liquid. But not just any liquid will do. There are several saline solutions available, and these are the best choice for storing your contact lenses.
Storing your color contact lenses is just a small part of the required care. Even more important than proper storage of your contacts is proper cleaning. Immediately upon removing the contact lenses from your eyes, you should place the lens in the palm of your hand and rinse it with the saline solution. Use your finger to carefully and gently rub the lens to remove any dust or debris. Give the lens another rinse with saline solution and place it carefully into the proper section of your storage case, which should already have fresh saline solution in it. Always remove the lens from your right eye first, and place it in the section marked with an R. This is especially important if your left and right eyes have different prescriptions. Then repeat the same process with the left eye. Be very careful not to drop your lens, especially if they are not color contact lenses.
Rinsing and cleaning your lenses in this manner will keep them free of dirt, and also free of germs. Therefore, they will remain comfortable each time you wear them, and also they will be less likely to cause an eye infection or other damage. When you are ready to put your color contact lenses back in the next morning, carefully remove them from the case, give it a quick rinse with the saline solution, and carefully place the lens in the appropriate eye. Repeat with the second eye. You then should dump out the saline solution from your case and allow the case to air dry. Do not keep the saline solution in the case, it must be allowed to air dry during the day so that bacteria does not form in the case.
Following these few simple rules for contact lens care and cleaning outlined in this guide will ensure you receive many happy years out of your color contact lenses.
